18960-02 - Practical course: Supplementary English Practice 2 3 CP

Content The course will focus on grammar, translation, and writing skills, with poems by Elizabeth Bishop as a theme for the course.
Learning objectives Further developing the skills practiced in the IPE and SEP1 courses.
Bibliography Elizabeth Bishop, "Poems" (Chatto & Windus, 2011). Additional course materials will be supplied by the instructor.
Comments Students should purchase specially priced copies of the Chatto & Windus paperback edition of Elizabeth Bishop's "Poems" at the Labyrinth bookstore (Nadelberg 17, Basel). The books should be available at the beginning of September. Please read the book before the course begins.

 

Admission requirements Completion of "Introduction to Practising English" and "Supplementary English Practice I," upon recommendation of the IPE instructor. The course is recommended for all students who still need more supplementary language practice before taking the "Practising English Exam Preparation" course. Englischstudierende haben Priorität.
Course application Students should sign up for one of the three sections by emailing the instructor (Andrew.Shields@unibas.ch). The sections are on Wednesdays from 8:30-10 and 10:15-11:45 and on Thursdays from 8:30-10. Please sign up for one section but also tell the instructor if you could take an alternative section if necessary. Places per group are limited.
