Content | This lecture course, following part I of 2008, introduces and discusses various “white” colonizers such as migrant tribes (e.g. the Lembas), explorers, European colonizers after the Berlin conference in 1884, missionaries, entrepreneurs, farmer/settlers, (travel)writers, Indian/Chinese immigrants, and eminent authors, among others, Joseph Conrad, who came and still come to Africa with different interests in mind. Thus a variety of interactions and concepts of “whiteness” and “darkness” will be explored along a range of historical and fictional texts. The focus will be on the image of the “white” in Africa as represented and perceived from various perspectives. |
