14126-03 - Tutorial: Theorien und Methoden der Literaturwissenschaft 1 CP

Content This course is dedicated to reading and analyzing a selection of theoretical texts. These will be discussed with regard to the literary material dealt with in the first semester.
Learning objectives Participants will practise and learn how to read theoretical texts, place literary texts in the context of literary theories, compare different theoretical arguments and begin to develop arguments of their own.
Bibliography A reader will be made available before the beginning of the semester at "Print it" copy shop (Mittlere Strasse 24). Note that Jonathan Culler's "What Is Theory?" has to be read for the first meeting.
Comments This is primarily a methodological course; emphasis is put on the skills necessary for dealing with theoretical texts.

 

Admission requirements The tutorial is part of the one-year course "Introduction to Literature and Culture Studies". It is open to all students who have passed the first semester of this introductory course. The tutorial must be attended in conjunction with the lecture "Theorien und Methoden der Literaturwissenschaft" (30531-01).
Course application Students are asked to put down their name on one of the four lists with the parallel courses which will be posted on the main notice-board of the Department of English (2nd floor, rear building) on February 6th.
