The topics addressed include: what are the characteristics of the sound system? How can the sounds be categorized in a linguistic fashion? How can new words be formed, and how are they inflected? What makes English sentence structure special? How does language make sense? How can language be used? The Proseminar combines theoretical input from the instructor with discussion of these principles and practical application to material in exercises.
