Semester spring semester 2013
Course frequency Every spring sem.

Content Bioethics as a field that explores ethical questions in the life sciences and medicine has become a well-established academic discipline. Contemporary bioethics scholarship comprises not only the development of normative frameworks for problem solving, but also the collection and interpretation of empirical data that can inform bioethical debates. This course is designed as a follow up to “Empirical research in bioethics: qualitative and quantitative methods” offered during the Autumn Semester. The content of this course will add to what students have already learned previously. Therefore, students are expected to know the basics of qualitative and quantitative methodologies. During this course, the following topics will be discussed: (1) what are mixed methodology studies, how to design them, and triangulation of data; and (2) coding and analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data. Analysis software used will include Atlas.ti and SPSS 20.0.
