Content This lecture will introduce into evolution, diversity, physiology, ecology and genetics of the Fungi. Topics will be:
- What is a fungus? What is a True Fungus? Are they plants?
- The fungal thallus and its differentiations
- Structure of the fungal hypha and its organelles
- Fungal Lifestyles: Saprophytic versus biotrophic fungi
- Symbioses with plants and insects
- Important fungal groups and their characteristics
- Genetics, propagation and life cycles
- Secondary metabolism and fungicides
- The importance of fungi for food production, featuring a choice of mushroom recipes.
