Content This course will provide a comprehensive overview of the core ethical and legal issues involved in practicing medicine and conducting clinical research. Among the topics discussed will be ethical issues such as consent, confidentiality, screening, risk vs. benefit, protection of research participants, and the core principles of biomedical ethics: non-maleficence, beneficence, respect for autonomy and justice. The lecturers David Shaw and Alex Capron will use their extensive knowledge of the US and UK contexts to illuminate discussion.
