| Content | This course works with the most recent developments in interpersonal pragmatics, i.e. the field of research that is concerned with the interpersonal/relational side of communication (see literature pointers). Next to working with extracts from traditional approaches to politeness and impoliteness research, we will also take into account work on emotions, face and conflict and sharpen our eye for methodological challenges by working with data. Students are encouraged to bring their own material to class and have to do preparatory reading before the block seminar starts. For this reason it is important that interested students have registered by 1 August in OLAT |
| Learning objectives | At the end of this course students have gained knowledge on the different research strands within interpersonal pragmatics and they have gained experience in applying this knowledge to data. |
| Bibliography | The course organisation and the reading will be announced before term starts on email and in OLAT.
