Content The verse novel is a lively and wide-ranging genre in contemporary Anglophone literature. We will study three verse novels as an introduction to this thriving genre.
Learning objectives In-depth study of three verse novels and their reception.
Bibliography The following books are required for the course:
- Derek Walcott, "Omeros" (Faber and Faber, ISBN 978-0571144594)
- Anne Carson, "Autobiography of Red" (Jonathan Cape, ISBN 978-0224059732)
- Bernardine Evaristo, "The Emperor's Babe" (Penguin, ISBN 978-0140297812)

Selected secondary literature on the three books will be provided by the instructor.
Comments Students will contribute to a course blog (address to be determined).
