43204-01 - Seminar: Contemporary Debates: Clinical ethics 2 CP

Semester spring semester 2016
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Beatrice Annaheim (beatrice.annaheim@unibas.ch)
Bernice Simone Elger (b.elger@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content As one field within the broader area of biomedical ethics, clinical ethics deal with challenges in clinical practice. In the context of medical and technological achievements, ethical dilemmas occur from the very beginning until the end of life, and beyond. They confront us with questions concerning reproductive rights and decisions, motherhood and surrogacy, organ donation, informed consent, advanced directives, palliative care, and many more. Although based on theory, clinical ethics are mainly applied ethics and they are a truly interdisciplinary activity, involving not only clinicians and nurses, but all health professionals, including lawyers. Our speakers will address a wide range of these topics.
