Content | The cultural and political role of print media, especially newspapers is still significant in today's digital world. This course will look at the ways in which the language of newspapers and journalism generates very particular world views and thus how the media play a key role in shaping public opinion. The political colour of newspapers, and the cultural influence of magazines will also be explored. Finally, the investigative dynamics of journalism will also be thematized. |
Learning objectives | Students will gain a broad view of print media landscape in the UK. Students will contextualize current cultural practices against features of textual language. Students will be able to engage critically with close readings of cultural phenomenon, producing written responses that test their skills in presenting arguments and justifications. |
