36485-03 - Proseminar: Introduction II: Literary Theory 3 CP

Content This course is dedicated to reading and analyzing a selection of theoretical texts. These will be discussed with regard to the literary material dealt with in the first semester.
Learning objectives Participants will engage with and learn how to read theoretical texts, place literary texts in the context of literary theories, compare different theoretical arguments and begin to develop arguments of their own.
Bibliography All texts will be made available on ADAM. Note that Jonathan Culler's "What is Theory?" must be read for the first meeting.
Comments This is primarily a methodological course; emphasis is put on the skills necessary for dealing with theoretical texts.

Admission requirements It is strongly recommended that this course is taken only after successful completion of the “Introduction I” literature proseminar (35016).
Course application Sign up sheets for the sections will be posted on the notice board on the 2nd floor, rear building, of the English Seminar from 25th January. Please note that places are limited and that once a section is fully booked you will have to sign up for one of the alternative sections. You may not register for more than one of the parallel courses.
