Content | This seminar is open to all the students preparing a Seminararbeit or a Master Thesis. The aim is reflect and exercise how to define a topic, an issue, a phenomenon, which will then be developed in a systematic way within analyses of a collection of instances. The seminar will deal both with substantial analytical problems related to the study of spoken language and social interaction and with writing problems, related to the scientific writing of academic texts. In this context, the seminar will practice how to write a single case analysis, how to constitute a collection of cases and present it in a coherent text, as well as how to introduce the examples to be analyzed, how to contextualize them, how to prepare transcripts or other materials and insert them into the text, how to write down the analyses. The practice will deal with examples brought by the participants, but will also be based on "best examples" from the literature and on collections that have been used to write published articles. The seminar is open to students working in and on different languages, interested in conversation analysis and the study of social interaction. The sessions will be held in English, German, French depending on the participants. |
Learning objectives | The aim is both to learn how to do qualitative analyses within the tradition of Conversation Analysis and interactional linguistics and how to write a comprehensive and coherent (set of) analyses. |
