35016-02 - Proseminar: Introduction I: Literary Studies 3 CP

Content This course offers an introduction to the study of literature. Details will be announced at the beginning of term.
Learning objectives Students will acquire the methodological tools necessary for the analysis of literary texts. The course will focus on the three main genres (poetry, prose and drama) and introduce students to important periods in literary history (Early Modern, Romantic, Modernist, Postmodernist). In addition, students will get acquainted with the basics of film analysis. They will also learn how to conduct research and how to engage in academic discourse.

The specified editions of books will be available for purchase from 'Labyrinth' (Nadelberg 17). The books must be purchased during the first week of classes. All further texts will be made available on ADAM; the film will be screened during term time.

Admission requirements Open to 1st semester students. No specific preparation required.
Course application Students are required to manually sign up for this class on the sign-up sheets, which will be posted on the notice board in the 2nd floor corridor of the rear building of the English Seminar as of August 29. Please register on or before September 9. The attendance list for the section will be based on the relevant sign-up sheet (and not on online registration). After signing up manually, please then register electronically on MOnA to gain access to the readings on the ADAM platform and receive your credit points: this must correspond with the section the student has chosen on the sign-up sheet, as the readings differ from section to section. Please note that places are limited and once a section is fully booked, you will need to sign up for one of the alternative sections. Please also ensure that you have only registered for ONE of the parallel sections: students registered to more than one section will be allocated to one of the sections by the instructors on September 12.
