Content | Stanley Kubrick is considered one of the great auteur film directors, making a wide ranging variety of films which have become classics of the 20th century canon. Kubrick sought out good stories to tell, and exploited innovative cinematographic methods to develop films to articulate a highly personal view of the human condition. This proseminar will address films from his oeuvre using a number of different approaches, structuralist, psychological, feminist and Deleuzian to develop an understanding of his total cinema. |
Learning objectives | Students will learn specifically about the works of Stanley Kubrick, more generally about ways to approach film through various critical frameworks. They will refine their analytical skills, their ability to apply theory and form research questions, and learn how to express and discuss their own critical readings of film. |
