45495-01 - Practical course: Read, Actually: Renaissance to Restoration 3 CP

Semester fall semester 2016
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Regula Hohl Trillini (r.hohl@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content This is designed as a follow-up to the first part of the survey of English literature "Renaissance to Restoration". Students will read, discuss and read aloud from a selection of essential texts mentioned in the lecture, covering the period from the late 16th to the late 17th centuries.
Learning objectives First-hand reading experience in print (the original medium for the majority of the discussed works) of some of the 'great' texts that underpin so much of the following literature(s) in English.
Bibliography We will dedicate 1-2 meetings to every text and students will be required to use and bring along a paper edition of each. There will be recommended but not set editions; some of the texts we will read are contained in "The Norton Anthology of English Literature Vol I". Contact Dr. Hohl for a reading list closer to the beginning of the term.
