Content This course examines post-colonial Anglophone literature and aims to familiarise students with the voices and narratives emerging in a rapidly globalising world. The focus will be on close readings of selected texts that address colonialism, immigration and (multi-)cultural diversity. Students will explore themes of identity, community and difference in their analysis of these contemporary literary works.
Learning objectives After having attended this course students should be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of key postcolonial literary texts.
- demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the underlying form and structure of literary texts and how these relate to content and meaning.
- negotiate between differing value systems and points of view.
- engage with a wide range of literary texts imaginatively and through multimodal approaches.
- analyse and critically evaluate a broad range of literary works in a way that is both personally meaningful and socially relevant.
