Content This research seminar provides an overview of the history of American literary criticism from the 1930s to 2020.
Learning objectives Students acquire an overview of the history of American literary criticism from the 1930s to 2020, from Marxist criticism and New Criticism to New Formalism.
Bibliography Vincent B. Leitch's "American Literary Criticism from the Thirties to the Eighties" (Columbia University Press, 1988) needs to be bought and read before the beginning of the term. You might consider supporting Labyrinth, your local bookstore, where copies will be available for purchase. All additional texts will be made available on ADAM.
Comments This course is taught weekly via Zoom. Note that during Zoom sessions, students are requested to switch on their cameras. For copyright reasons, any recording of the sessions is prohibited.

Should we return to offline, face-to-face sessions later in the semester, the course will be streamed so that those students who prefer to work from home can still participate.
