69153-01 - Practical course: Reading Ancient Papyri as Sources for Greco-Roman Social History (3 CP)

Content This year, the class will focus on reading papyri (in translation) to discover and analyze three aspects of Roman Egypt society:
– The working and living conditions of workers in the quarries of Egypt's Eastern Desert (mainly during the second century AD).
– Women empowerment and prostitution in Roman Egypt.
– Religion and magical papyri.

(I am open to add a fourth topic to be discussed and chosen with the students)
