13710-01 - Lecture: F7: Protein Structure Bioinformatics 2 CP

Content Three-dimensional protein structures are key to a detailed understanding of the molecular basis of protein function, to develop rational strategies for experiments such as site directed mutagenesis, studies of disease related mutations, or the development of specific inhibitors.
The course will cover modeling and simulation methods applied to protein structures and their interactions with other molecules: protein structure comparison and classification, protein modeling techniques, molecular mechanics simulations, in silico and structure based drug design.
Learning objectives Overview of current methods in computational methods in structural biology, e.g. protein and nucleic acid structure modeling, analysis of structure-function relationships, evolution of protein structures, molecular dynamics simulations and key methods in drug discovery.

Comments Die Veranstaltung besteht aus einer Reihe einführender Vorlesungen (wöchentlich), sowie einem zweitägigen Symposium "Computational Structural Biology" am 13. und 14. März (jeweils ganztägig).

 

Admission requirements Grundkenntnisse in Strukturbiologie (Strukturen und physikalisch-chemische Eigenschaften der Aminosäuren, Peptide und Proteine, Bauprinzipien von Proteinstrukturen) und Grundlagen in der Bioinformatik (Sequenzvergleiche und Alignements, Evolution) sind notwendig. Programmierkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich.
