23199-01 - Seminar: Postmodern and Post-postmodern US-American Fiction since the 1990s 3 CP

Content This seminar offers a reading of US-American texts since the 1990s as they emerge out of postmodernist metafiction and move into a specific post-postmodern writing after 9/11. We will analyze the following writings between fact and fiction: 9/11 and its aftermath; history/family histories retold; US-American moodscapes, transgression and hybridity.
Learning objectives The seminar allows a deepening of the texts presented in the lecture course of the previous term.
Bibliography Authors will include, among others: Auster, Updike, Roth, Powers, DeLillo, Eugenides, Foer, Ford, Lethem, Whitehead. Text must be read by the beginning of the course.

 

Admission requirements Open to students who have completed their second year proseminar paper in Literature and Culture Studies.
