Content South Africa has produced and continues to produce, an extraordinarily rich and varied literary output mirroring the living and expanding city. Thus, "Johannesburg. The Elusive Metropolis", eds. Nuttall and Mbembe, will be the starting point of our journey through South African cityscapes and landscapes reflected in recent fiction.

This Seminar serves as a Preparatory Course for the Joint SA-CH Workshop on Friday, 4 December 2009 at the English Seminar, with South African Scholars Gerald Gaylard, Kirby Mania, Sheila Meintjes, Michael Titlestad, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, and doctoral students and professors involved in the project "Living the City" at the University of Basel.

 

Admission requirements Open to students who have completed their second year proseminar paper in Literature and Culture Studies.
