59840-01 - Lecture: Introduction to Economic History 3 CP

Content The lecture series studies human’s history through the eyes of an economist asking a key economic question: What determined the standard of living across space and time? We start with a brief introduction of the field and specific methods. Afterwards we discuss how to measure well-being or the standard of living before we begin our intellectual journey through the topics of economic history linked to the potential determinants of the living standard.

• topics in economic history and the determinants of economic welfare
• important data sources and challenges in using historical data

Admission requirements Basic skills in statistics, micro- and macroeconomic are useful but not a hard condition. Good command English.

Please make sure that you are already registered for the fall semester and have paid the semester fees.

3. A deregistration is possible until 09.09.24 at the latest by email to studiendekanat-wwz@unibas.ch

4. Your registration will be entered in your Online Services only after the official deadline of the course registration period, i.e. after 14.10.24.

5. The following applies to everyone: enrollment = registration for the exam/assignment! In case of non-participation after registration it will be noted as "nicht erschienen" in the transcript.
