Content Topics discussed in this course will include:
• Principles and properties of lasers and optics
• Light propagation in tissue
• Laser-tissue interaction
• Therapeutic use of lasers and light
• Diagnostic use of lasers and light (‘optical biopsies’)
Learning objectives The objective of this lecture is to provide students with a broad overview of state-of-the-art topics in the area of optics and lasers in medicine and biology. Fundamental concepts of optics, lasers and laser-tissue interaction will be discussed in order to provide basic understanding of the current technology.
