Assessment format end-of-semester examination
Assessment details Presentation and discussion of a paper to be written during the semester on one of the following topics:
(a) Governance of higher education: differences between public and private funding, autonomy of institutional policies.
(b) Strategy: who definies the institutional strategy and how? Who is accountable for it and which incentives/sanctions are in place?
(c) Organizational structure: role of faculties, departments, institutes.
(d) How many professional «spaces» are needed in a university? What is the role of the faculty and of the administration in definingthe institutional agenda?
(e) University leadership: ownership vs. management, modes of election, top-down vs. bottom-up, internal vs. external preferences.
(f) Educational models: stress on formation and/or research, focus on undergraduate vs. graduate education.
(g) Globalization vs. local orientation in higher education. How does the university address a global audience? Advantages and disadvantages of international investments, franchising, etc.
