| Content | Diese interdisziplinäre Ringvorlesung mit Kolloquium führt in die Afrikastudien ein und greift aktuelle Themen auf. VertreterInnen aller am MA African Studies beteiligten Disziplinen (Geschichte, Ethnologie, Religionswissenschaften, Literatur, Sprachwissenschaften, Umeltwissenschaften und Epidemiologie) geben den Studierenden einen Überblick über ihren Fachbereich, die fachspezifische Methodologie und die aktuellen Debatten in Bezug auf Afrikastudien. Das Kolloquium gibt Raum zur Vertiefung des Stoffs, zur Klärung von Fragen und zum Zusammentreffen mit Fach- und Berufsleuten. This interdisciplinary lecture course on African Studies serves as an introduction to the MA in African Studies and addresses current issues. Representatives from the core disciplines (history, social anthropology, religious studies, literature, linguistics, environmental sciences and epidemiology) provide the students with an overview of their field of research, the specific methodological approach and current debates. In the colloquium the main arguments addressed in the lectures and in the articles read for each session are discussed and developed further. |

| Admission requirements | Für Studierende ab dem 3. Semester mit guten Englischkenntnissen. Pro Sitzung wird die Lektüre von einem bis zwei Texten vorausgesetzt. Die Leistungsüberprüfung erfolgt über die aktive Teilnahme an der Diskussion, Fernbleiben von Sitzungen wird durch eine schriftliche Reading Reaction kompensiert. For advanced students with appropriate English language skills. One or two texts have to be read in preparation for each session. Your performance is assessed through your active participation in the colloquium and no written examination takes place. Each missed session has to be compensated with a short “reading reaction” to a piece of literature. |
