Content | Description: The course familiarizes students with the concepts and challenges of the interdisciplinary field of public health based on a few examples. The introductory lectures in public health provide theories and examples along the framework of the 10 WHO Essential Public Health Operations (EPOH). The EPOH will be developed through local, national and global public health issues with a particular focus on the relevance of public health in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The course combines lectures and active involvement of students, who will read and critically discuss seminal papers. Learning objectives | To get an introduction into the field of public health on the local, national and global level. To understand the role and opportunities of public health in achieving the sustainable development goals. |
Comments | Methods: Lectures, in-class exercises, discussions Please note on Friday 23 November the Swiss TPH Conference (Health in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development) will take place. Please register for this and be present at least in the afternoon. This is a mandatory part of the course. |
