53721-01 - Field trip: International Organizations and Global Civil Society 5 CP

Content The excursion will introduce the participants into the United Nations system, focusing especially on the involvement of global civil society organizations with this international organization. Thereby, participants will reflect about the state of global democracy, its governance, accountability, transparency and legitimacy mechanisms.

Participation in the excursion will require the preparation of the recommended literature, active participation in the course debates and the preparation of one meeting with representatives of global civil society and/or international organizations to be held in Geneva. Each participant is responsible to self-organize travelling and accommodation in Geneva. There will be no external funding for these expenses.


Learning objectives The participants learn in this course
(1) to understand the United Nations system;
(2) to analyse the involvement of global civil society therein;
(3) to critically reflect about the state of global democracy.

A comprehensive syllabus including the compulsory literature will be provided to course participants on ADAM.
