Content In this class we will trace the history of coinage from the earliest electrum coins of 7th century BCE Lydia, to Republican Rome and the Hellenistic Kingdoms, and the whole of the Roman Empire down to the late 7th century CE, where the post-conquest Abd al-Malik's Coinage Reforms in the Islamic Caliphate took place and Justinian II's rule in the Byzantine Empire saw the first coin with the image of Christ on it.

We will also cover major topics in numismatic analysis such as die studies, coin hoard analysis, circulation patterns, iconographic studies, debasement, inflation, credit, and other topics relating to monetary history.
