Content This is one of the options for the third of three required courses in the module "Introduction to Academic Communication in English" (ACE). The course will explore three areas of spoken English. Firstly, some linguistic features of spoken English will be discussed. Secondly, we will address formal uses of spoken English such as the debate, the presentation, the speech, and reading aloud. A third area will include humour, jokes, lies and storytelling.
Learning objectives - Students will learn about the ways in which spoken language is structured.
- Students will rehearse some of the features of formal spoken language.
- Students will learn about and engage with more poetic uses of spoken language.
Bibliography A reader of texts will be made available before the start of semester.
