Learning objectives To understand the basics of chemical induction of tumorigenesis. To know cancerogenic chemicals and their mechanisms of action. To understand defense mechanisms and the relevance of transport, phase I and phase II detoxification enzymes. To be able to name three oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes and explain their function in the cell. To know tests used in the detection of cancer cells and genetic predisposition. To know animal models used to detect cancerogenic chemicals and to know defense and repair mechanisms. To know chemotherapeutic drugs as well as the mechanisms involved in resistance to such drugs.
