Content Description: The course familiarizes students with the concepts and challenges of the interdisciplinary field of public health based on a few examples. The introductory lectures in public health provide theories and examples along the framework of the 10 WHO Essential Public Health Operations (EPHO). The EPHO will be developed through local, national and global public health issues with a particular focus on the relevance of public health in achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The course combines lectures and active involvement of students, who will read and critically discuss seminal papers.

- Sustainable development goals (SDGs) and health
- Better Health Faster: Boosting health through the law
- Salutogenesis and health promotion practice
- Public health in Switzerland – how, who, what.
- SDG’s and Health – The Finale
Learning objectives To get an introduction into the field of public health on the local, national and global level.
To understand the role and opportunities of public health in achieving the sustainable development goals.
