Content Societal questions and problems are complex and they are shaped by an enormous diversity of influences and developments. Therefore, it is crucial to research societies and social groups from different perspectives and apply a range of theoretical and methodological approaches from multiple scientific disciplines.
This lecture serves as an introductory course to the MSG Changing Societies in which key concepts pertinent to understanding past and present societal issues and changes will be presented. The focus of the lecture is to explore the key areas of the MSG Changing Societies (migration, conflict, and resources) and present concepts that are related to these fields.

Learning objectives Students who complete this lecture will be introduced to different concepts of the social sciences which are key to understanding changes in societies. They will get to know different disciplinary approaches and gain understanding about how different societal issues are connected and influence each other. The lecture provides the basis for students to understand how these concepts are developed and applied in different disciplines.
