55415-01 - Seminar: Order and Security in Africa in the Twentieth Century 3 CP

Content This seminar aims to provide an overview of various issues related to order and security on the African continent over the long term from the colonial period to nowadays: security forces (police, army, para-military forces, vigilantes, etc.), day-to-day implementation of social order and supression of marginality (through confinement, forced labor, psychiatric asylum, etc.), and political dynamic (coup, rebellion, wars against terrorism, etc.)
The sessions will be structured around oral presentations and collective work on different materials and sources: scientific articles, audiovisual documents, think-thank reports, press, etc. These sessions can only work with the active investment of the students.

Admission requirements Für Masterstudierende und fortgeschrittene Bachelorstudierende der Geschichte mit abgeschlossener Grundstufe (Nachweis von drei Proseminaren und den drei obligatorischen Proseminararbeiten). Bei Überbelegung kann die Teilnehmerzahl beschränkt werden. In diesem Fall werden Studierende der Geschichte bevorzugt zugelassen.
