| Content | This is a preparatory seminar for a joint Winter / Summer School between the University of Basel and the University of Namibia (56885 Excursion: Food Systems and the Environment). In the seminar, we will develop a background to understand past and present rural development with a focus on food systems in Southern Namibia and the alpine regions of Switzerland. While we will focus on food production, distribution and consumption, we will set it within broader contexts of rural development, more specifically nature conservation and tourism, as important other income sources/factors in both regions. We will include interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches, among others history, ecology, geography and agricultural science. The seminar is primarily designed for students taking part in the Winter / Summer School but is also open for other interested students. |
