53897-01 - Practical course: Logic and Language in Ancient Philosophy 3 CP

Content In this series of reading exercises we will read source texts in translation on the relationship between reflection on language and the development of logic in the history of ancient Greek philosophy. Texts will include Parmenides, Plato’s Cratylos and Sophist, Aristotle’s Categories, De interpretatione, Topics and Prior Analytics, and Stoic texts on logic and grammar.
Learning objectives To acquire a basic tools for interpreting ancient philosophical texts; to acquire a working understanding of the core elements of ancient logical and linguistic theory.
Bibliography Literature will be provided on the learning platform Adam.
