46276-01 - Lecture: Structural and functional neuroimaging in psychiatry 3 CP

Semester fall semester 2020
Course frequency Every fall sem.
Lecturers André Schmidt (andre.schmidt@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content The aim of this lecture is to demonstrate how structural and functional neuroimaging can be used to explore pathophysiological mechanisms of psychiatric diseases and to establish reliable biomarkers to predict individual disease stages and treatment responses. The lecture imparts basic knowledge about the methodological aspects of different neuroimaging techniques (MRI, DTI, EEG, PET) and state-of-the-art analytical approaches and provides concrete examples how they can be used in preclinical and clinical research in psychiatric. The lecture is recommended for everyone interested in clinical neuroscience and neuroimaging, neuropsychiatry and neuropsychopharmacology.
Learning objectives To learn:
- which imaging modalities are suitable for psychiatric research, the basic concepts of them and how such data can be analyzed.
- how neuroimaging can be used to investigate pathophysiological mechanisms of psychiatric disorders
- how neuroimaging can be used to develop individual brain markers to predict disease stages and treatment responses
- how neuroimaging can be used to test and develop novel treatments in psychiatry
Bibliography Will be provided after each lecture.
