Content | Description: The lecture covers the broad field of drug (R&D) for parasitic diseases. The different elements of drug discovery and development will be presented in a more or less chronological way. Invited experts will cover the different chapters, colleagues from Swiss TPH and from other universities or pharma companies. This will allow the students an insight into current activities in R&D in the public and private sector. Content: Overview of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and the available treatment options In vitro screening methodologies and animal models of infection How to get from a drug target to a drug Toxicology and what we need it for Pharmacokinetics Clinical studies Phase I, II and III Drug action and drug resistance Drug R&D for animal diseases Examples of drug discovery projects at Swiss TPH The role of product development partnerships for NTDs |
Learning objectives | To become familiar with research in drug discovery and development (R&D) for parasitic diseases; to know how drugs for neglected diseases can be developed; and to get introduced to drug discovery projects at Swiss TPH. |
