Content Data description and presentation, graphical representations and summary measures
Normal distribution
Sampling distribution and confidence intervals
Testing of statistical hypotheses
Measures of association and agreement for categorical data
Confounder control and assessment of effect modification
Introduction to linear regression models and analysis of variance
Learning objectives Understand the role of statistics in the scientific process; Describe data using simple plots and summary measures; Construct and interpret estimates and confidence intervals for key population parameters; Identify and apply appropriate statistical methods for simple analytical problems; Recognise and take into account confounding and effect modification; Apply this knowledge in practice using Stata.

Description: This course covers basic concepts and methods of biostatistics and quantitative epidemiology.
Comments The corresponding Biostatistics practical (55047-01) must be taken together with this course.
