Content This course introduces students to theoretical and methodological issues, as well as the themes central to the field of dance anthropology. Readings will be discussed in the area of dance and performance, including feminist and post-colonial approaches to western, non-western, and globalized forms. These ethnographic texts will allow us to explore concepts such as embodiment and performativity as well as issues of gender, race, and class. In addition, we will critically examine the circulation of dance through global tourism and how this relates to broader questions about national identity and the politics of representation.
Learning objectives • Expand our understanding of the diversity of topics within the discipline of anthropology
• Deepen understandings of the anthropology of dance and the methods used to study dance anthropologically
• Gain new perspectives about how dance can be useful in the exploration into topics, such as politics and identity

 

Admission requirements The number of participants is limited to 20 people. The places are assigned according to date of enrollment and subject of study. Priority will be given to the subjects listed under "modules".
