58959-01 - Seminar: Plant-Microbe-Interactions 1 CP

Semester fall semester 2020
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Thomas Boller (thomas.boller@unibas.ch)
Klaus Schläppi (klaus.schlaeppi@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content The Seminar in Plant Microbe Interactions offers students insights where the frontiers of current research are and illustrates how we increase knowledge step-by-step. Goals are to practice the ‘scientific approach’ from hypothesis to data interpretation, to foster critical thinking and to life the scientific discussion.

The seminar alternates biweekly with ‘scientific presentations’ and ‘a journal club’ where research progress and studies are presented and discussed. Members of the ‘Plant Microbe Interaction’ (PMI) group will present an update of their current work in the scientific presentations. This is a good opportunity to hear research talks, participate in scientific discussions and to learn about the questions and methods used in the PMI group. The journal club consists of student presentations of up-to-date research articles that were selected because these studies cover exciting biology or because they are particularly educative and instructive.
