57415-01 - Seminar: Bayesian Modeling Introduction 1 CP

Semester fall semester 2020
Course frequency Irregular
Lecturers Mariela Elena Jaffé (mariela.jaffe@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content Introduction to modern Bayesian data analysis:

In this hands-on workshop, we will start introducing the Bayesian framework using the R language. We introduce the most important concepts of Bayesian statistics as a way of quantifying uncertainty in predicting parameters. Based on the idea to treat observed data as fixed and the model parameters as random quantities, we will present multiple techniques to predict parameters from data. In the last third of the workshop, we will show how recent function approximators (e.g., neural networks) can be used as a unifying framework for this task. While no specific prior knowledge is required, a strong interest in programming, statistics and thinking outside the box is advantageous.

Instructors: Ulf Mertens and Stefan Radev
