Content When it comes to Black-American culture, few are aware of the story of of its unique spiritual life. In this seminar Scotty J. Williams will take attendees on a journey from Africa to the Americas, where they will learn about the themes and rich traditions of Black-American religion.

This seminar will have three segments that center on the central themes of Black American religion (Rest, Resist, and Return). There will be a total of thirteen sessions.

04.05. – Martin and Malcolm – Civil Rights and Black American Religion

Bibliography This seminar will feature a selected assortment of readings from books and articles pertaining to Black-American religion. Attendees will be required to read twenty to thirty pages a week, and weekly readings will come in the form of PDFs that will be sent out via email or made available online.

• Read selected texts and watch selected films before each session.
• Do group presentations on a subject pertaining to a topic from a set list.
• Write one report on a topic from a set list.
