48612-01 - Lecture with practical courses: Statistical methods in trial design 2 CP

Semester spring semester 2021
Course frequency Every spring sem.
Lecturers Tracy Glass (tracy.glass@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Amanda Ross (amanda.ross@unibas.ch)
Christian Schindler (christian.schindler@unibas.ch)
Content Good clinical practice
General issues in clinical trials
Types of randomized clinical trials (simple, cluster, factorial, cross-over, sequential, adaptive, stepped-wedge)
Sampling and randomization methods
Sample size calculation
Analysis considerations
Learning objectives To understand the basic statistical principles of clinical trial design. The proper use of statistical methods is essential throughout the process of a clinical trial – from planning to the dissemination of results. Given a potential research idea, students should be able to choose the optimal trial design, calculate the appropriate sample size and write a short statistical analysis plan after completing this course. Students should also understand analytical issues associated with complex trial designs.
Comments Methods: Lectures, exercises, computer practicals and project work
