60369-01 - Seminar: Urban Food Systems - A North-South Comparison 2 CP

Semester spring semester 2021
Course frequency Once only
Lecturers Lena Bloemertz (lena.bloemertz@unibas.ch, Assessor)
Content This Seminar is organised by lecturers and researchers from Kenya and Switzerland. The idea behind is to engage in a cross disciplinary discussion on urban food systems and how they could be made more sustainable. In order to do so we are going to compare the current state, dynamics and the problems of urban food systems and how they are or could be addressed in two different settings (Switzerland, Basel and the Upper Rhine Region as well as Kenya, Nairobi and surroundings). After some introductory sessions, working groups will be formed to carry out small research projects in Nairobi and Basel. The course (including the contributions prepared by the students) will be made available to a broader audience via a webpage.
Learning objectives - Analysing Urban Food Systems (influencing factors, actors, governance, problems)
- Reflecting on the role of cities for sustainable food systems
- Engaging in a binational discussion
- Carrying out and documenting small research projects
