60446-01 - Practical course: Greek Tragedy and Democracy 3 CP

Content This course will present the main debates and latest research trends relevant to the question of the links between Greek tragedy and democracy. We will not only examine Classical Athenian tragedy but also the situation outside Athens as well as during the post-classical period.
Learning objectives Being able to get a nuanced opinion on the links between ancient theatre and political régimes.
Acquiring knowledge of relevant ancient Greek theatre plays.
Getting to know less studied contexts of performance of Greek tragedy (outside of Athens, post-classical period, democratic and non-democratic contexts).
Bibliography Will be distributed at the beginning of the semester, with complements for each topic during the semester.
Comments Students will still be able to attend the course online if we revert to face-to-face teaching in the second half of the semester.
