| Content | Le terme « utopie » a été forgé par Thomas More dans son De Optimo Reipublicæ Statu, Deque Nova Insula Utopia (1516). Le mot désigne à la fois « ce qui n’est pas » ou « pays de nulle part » (u-topia) et « ce qui est Bien » (Eu-topia), en d’autres termes un pays fictif où un gouvernement idéal règne sur un peuple heureux. L’ouvrage de More sera sans cesse imité aux 16e et 17e siècles. Il le sera dans une visée le plus souvent critique, voire subversive : le récit utopique permet de critiquer dans un jeu de miroirs déformants les normes politiques, morales, religieuses telles que l’Occident les a construites. |
