Content | This course deals with the specific aspects of start-up financing. Participants will learn about the economics of the Venture Capital industry and the types of venture financing along the stages of young companies. In particular, we will shed light on the development and investments of start-ups as well as on deal-making activities and due diligence. Also, the critical stages of young ventures such as fundraising, growing the company, and exit will be discussed. |
Learning objectives | A successful outcome of this course includes understanding how the key drivers of the Venture Capital industry affect financing and investment activities, being able to critically assess the main concepts of this business, and knowing which criteria are important from the investor perspective on the one hand and the firm perspective on the other. The knowledge and skills acquired in this course are equally important for any financial activity in the areas of risk capital investing, private equity consulting, and financial services management, as well as for future entrepreneurs. |
Bibliography | Readings will be provided during the course. For preparation, we recommend the following textbook: Harm de Vries, Menno van Loon, Sjoerd Mol: Venture Capital Deal Terms – A guide to nego-tiating and structuring Venture Capital Transactions, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 2016. |
