49882-01 - Seminar: Literature in English: Drama 2 CP

Content This course offers an introduction to English-language drama, including an overview of its main texts and genres. In addition, the course introduces students to writing academic papers.
Learning objectives The course will introduce students to theater and drama in English language and offer basic tools for the analysis of dramatic texts. By the end of the course, students should be able to write a 4000-word academic paper on a play of their choice.
Bibliography Students will read a selection of plays (titles to be announced in the first week) as well as a selection of other texts. Students are required to purchase the plays; other mandatory readings will be made available online. If it can be arranged with Theater Basel, there will be a behind-the-scenes excursion and/or a visit to see a play together.

Assessment details Course preparation is mandatory and may be assessed throughout the semester. After successfully finishing the course, students are required to write a three-credit-point academic paper (IAL 1B). More details will be given during the course.
