Lecturers | Doron Cohen (doron.cohen@unibas.ch, Assessor) |
Content | This seminar focuses on attempts to reduce behavioural and social problems based on behavioural research. We will mainly talk about the effects of economic incentives and of choice architecture on behaviour. The premise is that people are less rational than theoretical economy tends to assume, but are characterized by the ability to learn and adapt. We will review and discuss behavioural phenomena from the fields of market design, game theory and decision making. We will discuss basic models of learning and will deal with the challenge of predicting behaviour. Throughout the semester we will see that in many cases, there is high sensitivity to economic incentives (but not always in the expected direction). Thus, an intelligent design of the reward system can allow for better coping with systematic social and organizational issues. |
Learning objectives | Students will learn about: 1. Practical implications of classical phenomena in behavioural economics. 2. Derive the predictions implied by different interventions and mechanisms using the leading models in behavioural economics. 3. How to design organizational environments to minimize social conflicts. |
Bibliography | Will be communicated in the course. |
